I feel like I'm going to die here
Brid
I suddenly opened my eyes, but it seemed as if I hadn't. Endless darkness surrounded me, making me remember why. Then I remember where I was, still on the ground, in the same position, with my mind tired.
Since that day, I have only experienced tragedy after tragedy. “Leaf.”
I knew she wouldn't answer me, yet I wouldn't stop trying. I refuse to believe that I have lost her forever. She has to be here, somewhere. I hugged my legs and started crying. I felt like I was quickly losing hope. In my chest, I felt the emptiness that the absence of Kael and Leaf was creating in me. I had to get out of here as soon as possible before I died.
With new renewed strength, I sat up. Then, I stretched my arms out to the sides, trying to feel if there was something in front of me. I found nothing.
Grabbing more courage, I got down on my knees, “AAAAAAA” Oh! My knee. At that moment, I remembered the incident with the rock, and I definitely can't lean on it to try to crawl out of this place. The little I remember before falling here is that it looks like a cave. I don't think there is enough room to stand, but I had no other way out. So with my good knee, I held my weight and got up slowly, until I felt something on top of me. With my hands, I touched the surface, and I was sure it was pure rock. The space was so small, that only by slouching could I fit in here.
I started walking very slowly. This darkness was making me despair quickly. The anxiety was building up, and if I couldn't calm down soon, I was at risk of having a panic attack. To avoid it, I did the first thing that came to mind. I began to recite Kael's name, over and over again. He was my strength.
“Kael, Kael,” over and over, until the sudden blow to my head distracted me.
“Ouch!” I touched my forehead and felt wet. I raised my hand to the front and touched a bulge from the cave. It was clear that I was not going to get out of here unscathed. And that, if I managed to get out of here at all.
I reached into one of the pockets of the hunter's jacket and pulled out a piece of paper. I put it on the wound with light pressure and continued on my way. The next ten minutes were torture. I fell several times, due to roots coming out of the ground. No matter how slow I walked, I ended up hurt one way or another. I was beginning to believe that this place didn't want to let me out.
In the middle of the darkness, I walked for a few more minutes, until I felt the wind touch my face.
“It cannot be,” I screamed with excitement. I followed the path the wind was tracing for me until I reached a small opening in the cave.
“Light, I found light.” I approached to investigate. I couldn't see much, but with my hands, I managed to feel what it was. The root of some tree was so large that it came out of the ground, creating a space between this cave and the surface. Frantically, I started scratching where the small little hole of light was. I didn't give up, I was about to get out of this horrible place. Kael was waiting for me.
The thought that I would soon be in his arms made me regain my strength. After a while, my hands couldn't take it any more. My nails were broken, and my fingers were bleeding. I leaned back and saw that I hadn't managed to do much. Only my arm could fit that way. At this point, my hands were no longer useful. I fell to the ground, crying again.
This situation was beyond my strength. I needed to rest and regroup. If I wanted to get out of here, I would have to try even harder.
Suddenly, I heard something. I lifted my head to hear better, in complete silence. Yes, something or someone was coming this way. I felt the thunder of their footsteps through the earth. I was going to put my hand out to be seen but stopped short. What if it's a bad thing? Or some cursed creature that lives in this forest? Not know what to do. I had only two options: stay here and die, or risk it out there. I looked around me, and I didn't think about it any more. I ran to the hole and stuck my hand out.
“Hey! Here, here I am, please help. Help.”
In the distance, I heard a voice. “Alpha, I found her, come quickly.” My eyes widened in surprise, and a rush of adrenaline spilled throughout my body. I knew that voice. It was Christopher, the tracking wolf.
“Christopher, here I am, here.” I kept waving my hand non-stop. After a few seconds, I saw Christopher's silhouette cast a shadow in front of me. I leaned back, watching as he bent down and was trying to see through the hole in the ground. Finally, his eyes found me. I was crying, I couldn't believe it, my pack had found me.
The others began to arrive, and that's when I heard Wind's howl. With this, he was telling me that he was already here. That he came for me. My tears of joy would not stop falling. It was happening what I had wanted many times these last few days.
“Kael, you came.” In a low voice, I whispered.
More wolves began to arrive, and they were all digging together. The hole began to get bigger until it was completely opened. All of them transformed into humans, and when I got closer, they all froze, but no one said anything. Okay, I knew it was dirty and beaten up, but it couldn't be too bad for them to react that way. Yet, what surprised me the most was that no one asked me how I was, or if they were glad that I was alive. No, what terrible things would they be thinking if they couldn't keep their eyes on me?
