Without explanation

Conrad pushed Christopher to the side and held out his hand for me to take. I grabbed him without hesitation, and I was pulled to the surface.

The sun's rays were so bright, that immediately I closed my eyes. So, long in the dark cave, I had become unaccustomed. When I was able to open them again, I saw the wolves that had come to my rescue. I was so moved because thanks to them, I was finally able to go home. But they looked at me differently, something was wrong. I dismissed that thought because what I wanted most was to see Kael.

Behind them, Wind's roar was heard. The wolves gave way, stepping aside. The majestic animal was walking in my direction. My eyes filled with tears of joy. However, he was not happy to see me, I could feel it. Wind got closer and closer until his nose was almost brushing mine. I wanted to hug him; however, something told me to stay still. Wind growled in my face. It was an aggressive sound full of recriminations. I bowed my head in respect, and that's when Wind gave way to Kael.

My beautiful mate was naked in front of me, watching me with mixed emotions. I didn't know what was going through his mind, but I couldn't contain my joy and the excitement of seeing him again.

“Kael,” I said, reaching out my arm to touch his face. However, he raised his hand, silencing me.

“Leaf?” That was all he told me. I lowered my arm and brought it to my chest, and then I just shook my head, letting him know that my wolf was no longer with me. Kael widened his eyes in surprise, and later in horror. Inside him, Wind's screams in rage. It was terrifying, the smell of violence that my mate was giving off, merging with the air, and it was directed at me.

Kael, without saying anything else, turned around and walked quickly away from me.

“No, Kael, no. Don't go, don’t leave me.” That, I managed to say before the final words of my mate stabbed me in my heart, breaking me.

“Take her away.”

Take her away, take her away, take her away. This was the only thought in my head. The little heat I had disappeared in an instant as I realized what those words truly meant. It was Kael, my mate, who had handed me over to the pack authorities. Conrad was the hand of justice, and together with the council of wolves, who represented the jury, he will carry out my sentence. I know what that means, betraying an Alpha means death.

Conrad himself approached me and pulled me out of my reflection.

“Luna, morph into your wolf. We need to return as soon as possible. It is getting dark, and I do not want us to expose ourselves to more danger because of you.”

His tone was hostile, which confirmed what I was thinking. Now, I am the public enemy. By law, everyone must turn their back on me. I could not imagine a sorrow as great as the one I felt at that moment even existed. Despite being his Luna, I now have the status of a common criminal.

I shook my head, saying that I couldn't. On his face, I saw annoyance and exasperation.

“Excellent, Luna.”

Conrad turned to Christopher, saying, “You will carry her on your back, here, the princess, it seems she cannot transform. For my part, I will not have contact with someone as dirty as her.”

His comment went beyond my appearance. Apparently, Toni and Fatima's lies were heard. Even Conrad wasn't on my side. He was not only the beta of the pack, but he was my friend.

Christopher nodded and transformed without saying anything else. I watched the wolf approach me, and without any regard for my condition, he stood there waiting. With difficulty, I limped towards him, and with my good leg, I tried to climb onto his back. But Christopher's wolf moved, and I fell on the other side head first. The wolf looked down at me with an air of superiority. Like I said, now I was the enemy of the pack, and until the time of my death, I fear that I will live in hell.

I scrambled to my feet, even though the wound on my knee had reopened. This time, I will endure the pain and bend my legs, to not fall over again. I approached the wolf again, and this time he didn't move. Finally, I managed to mount him and held on tightly to his fur. Once riding, Conrad and the others transformed into wolves. All of them howled, raising their heads to the sky. With this, they were announcing that they had captured their prey.

Christopher began to move forward, as did the pain in my heart and my body. If I could talk to Kael and explain what really happened, but he left, and he didn't give me a chance to say anything.

The wolves sped away from this place. I couldn't help but turn back. The forest seemed like it was saying goodbye to me, as a heavy fog began to cover all the trees. I turned around, terrified to see it for another second. I still did not assimilate how I was still alive. I had survived the cursed forest.

After a few hours. Ghost Fang's territory was in sight. A lump formed in my throat. Up to here, I could smell the aggressiveness of the pack. And it was all directed towards me.

Upon reaching the entrance, Christopher pulled me off his back and walked in front of me. Two wolves came up behind me, taking care of the fugitive so that she does not escape. I got up off the ground and started to limp. Members of the pack were along the main avenue.

“Dirty, you are a disgrace, traitor, die.” Insult after insult was heard everywhere. I lowered my head, but not because I was embarrassed, not at all. The sadness I had when listening to them was eating away at my heart.

The wolves led me to the prison, and from a distance, I turned to see what used to be my home and Kael's. He was watching from a distance. I could tell. His mate was being taken to prison while he watched.
