I have to get back what I lost
Brid
“Brid, I know you're wondering what I'm doing. However, I will tell you now. Because afterwards, you'll be too dead to understand anything.” Fatima laughed out loud at her joke. Those were her first words since she arrived. My eyes were closing, still with Toni's head resting on my shoulder as if I was enjoying his hug. He started kissing me and stroking my hair. Fatima did not stop taking photos. My head was spinning, and my legs were bending, I couldn't support my weight any more. I was completely human again, and naked, in Toni's arms. Even in this state, I knew this looked terrible.
“These photos, Brid, are for your beloved Kael.”
No-no-no. I tried to speak, but what they injected me with was blocking every one of my functions. No that, no, not Kael. He'll think I was cheating on him with my best friend.
“Ah! I can see that you finally understood what we are doing here.” Toni, by now, was holding my full weight. My body was no longer working for me. Fatima approached us slowly, smiling.
“I'm sorry, but you didn't leave us another option. You must leave. Only in this way, Toni and I will be happy.” My eyes were closed, and my conscience was leaving me.
“Before you lose yourself forever, I'll tell you a secret,” I felt her nails scratch my face.
“I love Kael with all my heart, and I am willing to do whatever it takes to be with him, including killing you. And Toni, well, he won't have to suffer any more seeing you with someone else. The dart that I shoot you has poison in it. But not any poison. This was prepared by the witches of the north. Not even your physical abilities as Luna will heal you. You will die in peace and without pain. I gave you that for so many years of friendship.
And about Kael, he and Wind will never find you. Since we will bury you in the cursed forest. It is said that spiritual forces dwell there. And that no mortal would venture to step foot in. However, we will. You will be the sacrifice that the earth demands to pass. But don't worry, Brid, I'll take good care of him. I'll be sure to show him these photos, so he knows what kind of wolf you were. Eventually, he will pick a new Luna, and what do you think will happen, Mm? I'll be there for him, comforting him in his hours of darkness, until he thinks of you no more, and the pain of your betrayal is gone. I will be the new Luna of the Ghost Fang Pack.”
My mind collapsed, leaving me in complete darkness, and when I woke up, I was buried, surrounded by darkness. I began to move my body frantically, trying to break free to get out. With my hands, I scratched the ground, until I could reach the surface. This is how I woke up from the dead. I had been buried on a hill in the cursed forest. A secluded, inaccessible, and enchanted place.
I opened my eyes again, wondering why I am alive. I turned to the hole where I was just a few minutes ago. My skin shuddered to reflect on spending minutes, hours, or days there. I didn't know anything at the time. The only thing that was clear to me was that I had to go back.
I turned my gaze to the horizon. The sky was clear, and the storm had passed. It was time to go home. I blanked my mind, calling Leaf. But no matter how much I tried, she was nowhere to be found. Panic and despair settled.
“Leaf, Leaf, where are you?” I turned around, looking for her. Maybe she separated from my body, I don't know.
“Leaf, Leaf, answer me, where you are. Leaf.”
I looked inside myself several more times until the realization that my wolf was really gone hit me. I threw myself into the mud on my knees, crying. Now, it was incomplete. Without my wolf and without my mate, I felt a hole in the centre of my chest that was growing every second.
My face was facing down, and with my hand, I wiped away my tears. After thinking and thinking about what to do, a sense of determination was the only thing I felt. There was no coherent thought in my mind yet, however, I did know one thing for sure. I needed to get up and snatch what those traitors had stolen from me. Without knowing why I was alive, I would not give up this second chance in the world.
Kael and the pack were in danger. It was my duty to save them because in my heart, I was still Luna.
With that in mind, I got up. There was nothing covering me except mud and dirt. I turned around to look at the surroundings, noticing that I was surrounded by trees, big and scary trees. Neither I nor anyone else had been here before, I was sure of it because this forest is supposed to be cursed.
As Fatima told me, I am about a day and a half away from reaching my pack territory if I hurry. Kael must be worried. I can feel it in my bones. Even though my wolf is no longer with me, there is no breaking the bond between us.
Again, I concentrated all my energy on searching for Leaf within myself. With my eyes closed, I imagined my wolf hovering above my head.
“Come on precious, come on, where are you? I need you, come on, come on.” Nothing, I am so discouraged, that I bow my head. Now, what am I going to do? Kael's face suddenly appeared in my mind. Yes, Kael will help me. Maybe Wind will be able to bring her back.
With new hope, I took a step forward. I had to get out of this forest as soon as possible. I turned to look at the sun, and from the position, I could tell that it was around twelve in the afternoon, with enough time to get out of there before it all get dark. Especially since I would rather not spend another night in this place. For nothing in the world, I would stay longer than necessary. I closed my eyes and saw Kael's face.
“Love, wait for me, I'm on my way.”
