 The council meeting

Kael

“Are you ready, Alpha?” I nodded my head, Conrad opened the door of my house, and we went out together. A car was waiting for us at the entrance. David got out of the driver's side and rushed to open the door for us. Conrad and I boarded the vehicle, while David got back in the wheel, and we set off.

Today is the day when the council of the wolves, and I will have to choose the new Luna. My heart is crying, and Wind has been absent. Maybe he wants to avoid seeing how we take a surrogate Luna instead of the real one. My hands are sweating and anxiety is the only thing I have. Today will be the day that my mate will be dismissed and another will rise in her place. Although it hurts my soul, this has to be done. My mate cannot die, and if I don't give in on this, the council of wolves will hasten with judgment, and I wouldn’t have time to collect the evidence to exonerate Brid of these treason charges.

The trip was short because the meeting room for legal events is located in the main square of our community. All wolves who have something to say are welcome to express their concerns. And I am very proud of this since, in my father's reign, no one has this opportunity. The word of an Alpha was absolute. But I changed everything. Now we all have a voice and a vote. Throughout my childhood and adolescence, I dreamed of transforming this pack into a fair community. I wanted a place where all the wolves, who lived under my leadership, were happy and lacked nothing. Listening to the voices is essential to maintaining a healthy pack.

Sadly, that didn’t happen with my mate, and unforgivable from my part. I should have communicated with her in another way, not closing in and turning my back on her as I did. I confess that those photos took me surprised, filling my heart with doubts and sadness, even hate. I was full of jealousy, blind to all but the inferno in my heart. But no more, now I want to believe in her and her love for me. Brid has always been mine, even before we met.

We finally stopped, and David got out of the car and opened the door for us. Conrad and I got out, with my gaze was ahead. The hall door opened, and we were greeted by the council president. An old friend who helped me rebuild the pack after I killed my father. He shared my vision, and without him, Ghost Fang would not be what it is now.

“Alpha, nice to see you. I know it's not the best of times, but still, it's always good to say hello.” Connor extended his hand to greet me. I returned the greeting with a strong squeeze.

“Connor, I say the same, when this is over, I hope you invite me and my mate to eat at your house. You know Brid adores your wife.” Connor's surprised face said it all.

“Kael, you mean the new Luna, who will be selected today? Because if not, I'm lost.” I nodded my head, expecting all kind of misunderstandings. Even Connor doubted my mate.

“My mate Brid, I'm talking about her. Connor, you have to believe what I'm telling you. Brid has always been faithful to me. I trust her, I have no doubt.”

“Please, explain yourself, Kael. I know you wish for that to be true and us too. We all wish that Brid hadn't done what she's accused of doing. But there are witnesses, and proof.”

“Yes, witnesses, that conveniently are contending for Luna's position.” Connor's eyes showed the connotation of my words. The realization of what this meant was finally recorded. His gaze hardened, and violence began to fill the air. Yes, Connor and Lucy, his mate, love mine. They will always be on our side.

“Alpha, if it's true what you're saying, why are you here about to choose Brid's replacement, we need to get her out of the cells?” Connor asked with fury in his tone, understanding it very well.

“No, I have to wait. The council is planing to sentence her to death, and she can't prove her innocence. There is a problem with Leaf, and she cannot come to project the truth. This is all a set-up, I'm sure about this. The injustice of this case is that we all must abide by the law.” I took Connor by the shoulder and squeezed hard, letting him know what I was going to say is vital.

“I need your help, old friend. The council has to forget about punishing Brid with the death penalty for now. You cannot fail me, her life is in danger, and undoubtedly, in my heart, I know that she is innocent.” Connor's eyes had tears, but he held them back so as not to spill them. He was a tough wolf.

“Kael, I will do everything in my power to help Luna. Despite what happens today, Brid would still be my Luna.” His words touched my heart, knowing that this Wolf would give his life for justice. I know that I can trust him and Lucy.

“Thank you, Connor, you are a true friend.” Connor was going to say something else; however, we were interrupted by the vice president of the council. Luscious, he is someone that I could not trust on a personal level. So, I will keep everything hidden for now.

“Alpha, welcome. Please come in, we are all ready to start. The participants are eager for you to meet them.”

Thereafter, he turned to Conrad, “Beta welcome.” Conrad nodded his greetings back.

“Luscious, nice to see you again too. Lead the way.”

The four of us entered at the same time. Everybody inside went silent when they saw us coming in. Luscious led me to my seat in the middle of a large table, where seven council wolves and I will perform this show. Once seated, Connor starts.

“Ghost Fang Pack, we welcome you to this important meeting. Where our Alpha will choose the new Luna, the one who along with the Alpha will rule this pack.”

A shout of excitement erupted from the pack. There was a lot of interest in seeing the moment I took a new mate. But that will never happen. Brid will be my mate until neither she nor I will be in this world any more.
