Salima
Kael
Salima narrowed her eyes and said, “These are serious accusations you are making Alpha. The peace treaty we signed a century ago prevents us from interfering with your race. Now, if you have proof, show it.”
Her hair began to move on its own, and I took a few steps back. Salima began to levitate, and her eyes turned white. But in an instant, I felt like my mind was being pierced by an arrow of energy. From the corner of my eye, I managed to see how David fell to the ground, holding his head.
It didn't take me long to do the same. I felt like my brain was being ripped out. But just as it began, so it ended. My head returned to normal, and I managed to see David sat up. Yet, Salima was still in front of us in the same position, her eyes white. I stayed motionless in the same place, waiting to see what this witch did to us. Finally, after a few minutes, she opened her eyes and returned to the ground. Her gaze was hard, and even I had a hard time keeping my eyes on her.
“Indeed Alpha, this has the intervention of one of my sisters. However, according to the peace treaty, we will be the ones who will judge her and give the punishment. There is a why she did it, and that has to do with the wolf who requested her help. However, your mate does not have much time, I'm telling you now. The silly wolf didn't know what he was doing. Ignorant of the power he unleashed. He acted without knowing the consequences, which would be deadly.
“You mean, Toni, is that the wolf you are referring to?”
She nodded, then said, “In exactly one week, it will be a full moon, and your mate will be consumed with the soul of the five most powerful witches of our time. They will possess her body to take revenge on those who condemned them to death.”
Brid? “What did you say? What does my mate have to do with all this?”
Salima just shook her head, “You'll see for yourself, Alpha.”
The witch raised her hands in front of her chest and from her, a white cloud emanated. It positioned itself above us and began to project images of my mate. With wide eyes and an open mouth, I start to see what was happening. My eyes moved to the rhythm of the images, unable to blink for a second.
I watched from the moment Toni saw Brid in the woods. When they argued. At the time of the kiss, and when Leaf emerged to defend Brid. Then came the dart that paralyzed my mate. My tears started to come out, moved by this immense sadness, which was squeezing my heart to the point of bleeding it out.
My mate was in danger and I couldn't do anything.
I watched when the dart hit her neck and the moment when Fatima appeared from the bushes holding a camera in her hands. Subsequently, she started taking photos. I also saw the face of pain that the betrayal of her two best friends had committed against her. Later, I watched as Toni carried her up the hill and buried her. My mate died.
I felt it, that's why my body collapsed at that moment. Brid died.
But the next image disturbed me more. Brid digs her way out of the tomb with her bare hands, until her dirty and muddy body was standing on the top of the hill, gazing out over the valley.
The fog began to dissipate, and the images disappeared. “No, no,” with my hand I tried to grasp them, but the smoke only tangled between my fingers. I turned to the witch and for the first time, her face showed compassion.
“The rest is not relevant at the moment, Alpha. You will have time to do justice to yours.”
Salima intensified her gaze on me and assertively said, “You have to bring your mate before me, exactly on the day of the full moon; otherwise, it will be too late. The power of the five witches will take over Brid's body and mind, condemning her forever. Your mate will be the vessel that carries their twisted soul for eternity.”
Wind let out a howl of pain, impotent in front of her pain, not knowing what to do to save his mate. Nonetheless, Salima looked inside me, turning to Wind, “You can get Leaf back if her soul hasn't been sucked into the shadows. She was the sacrifice that Brid's body had to pay for the resurrection. Do not go into despair, yet, mighty Alpha. Your mission is to find your mate and bring her back. I'll take care of the rest.”
When she finished speaking, she now set her eyes on me, “You will take revenge on those who attempted against your mate. You will avenge her in her name. However, that will have to wait, I can feel that Brid is sick. Something happened to her while she was imprisoned in your cells. Your guard will have the answers you seek.”
Simon?
“Don't fail Alpha, or we will all suffer. The power of the five witches together is unstoppable.”
Salima began to fade into thin air, while her penetrating gaze kept on me. I looked down at the floor, bowing my head in disbelief. My heart was broken because all this happened, and I didn't realize it. My mate was treated like a criminal, punished for something that she didn't do. I punished, too, turning my back on her.
Wind howled in pain as well. Her mate is lost in the dark, alone, and at risk of being lost forever.
David's movement made me turn around, he was getting up off the ground. His face said it all, too. He failed his Luna, as I failed my mate.
“Alpha, we have to find Luna.” I heard David whisper. I put my attention on him and nodded. Closing my eyes, I raised my face to the sky. After taking a deep breath, my mind filled with conviction. When I opened them, I saw everything clearly. I already knew what to do.
The power that Wind transmitted to me emanated from my being. Revenge was precisely what we wanted, and we were going to have it. But first I need to find answers and get my mate out of that place.
“David, please notify everyone that I will see them in the cells.”
