 The labyrinth of her mind

Kael

My body was suspended in the air, everything around me looking ethereal. There was no air or sound, even when I opened my eyes everything was dark. Then, I felt a terrible pain running along my spine, and from my chest, an intense light emanated. I arched my back backwards, and gave a great cry. My face contorted in pain.

I didn't know what was going on, feeling as if something were being sucked out of me.

“AAGRRRRR!” I yelled from the depths of myself, and after a few seconds, everything returned to calm. When I thought that the worst had happened, I changed my mind when I saw what was in front of me. Wind was suspended in the air like me. I was stunned to see my wolf face to face.

How was this possible? And for the first time in my life, I felt helpless and weak. But at that moment I remembered what Salima told me, “You just have to follow your heart, and you will find your way to her. Wind will have to do the same with Leaf. But you will have to separate yourself from him, while you are in Brid's mind. You will be a simple human, and your wolf will be a simple wolf looking for his mate. Both of you will be in danger if any of them finds you. You must trust me, Alpha, the moment that you are ready, call my name, and I will bring all of you back.”

The sock was immense at first, but then I started to react, I got rid of the freight and put my mind to the task. Not thinking of what could go wrong. Then, I thought about me Brid, and Leaf. Is that how she felt when they parted away? No, she would have to suffer worse than this. With no weapons with which to defend herself or return home, she was totally at the mercy of the cursed forest.

Every day I admire her more, with her unmatched strength. But I shook my head back to reality, with no time to waste. We have to win this battle and return home.

I put my eyes on Wind and with a determination of steel I told him. “Find Leaf, it's your only chance to get her back. You can't fail, Alpha. Come back to me when you're ready, without you, we can't go.” Wind turned around and without wasting any more time disappeared into nothingness. I was surprised. How was it possible that he knew what to do?

Deep inside my head, I heard Salima's voice. “Alpha, let's not waste time. Brid is in great danger. Calandria began to feed on her pain. There will be a moment when there will be no going back. Even you won't be able to get Brid out of there because her brain and emotions will be permanently damaged.”

Without speaking, I asked her through my mind, “Where do I go? How to get to her?” I looked around and saw absolutely nothing. Everything was darkness without the possibility of finding a way out.

“Listen to me very well, Kael. You are in Brid's mind in spirit. Her conscience is being imprisoned somewhere. Find her and save her. Focus on her, remember what Brid is to you. Don't lose sight of your goal. Follow your heart and you will find her. Nothing can interfere with the bond that the fated mates have. Use it to your advantage. And the moment all of you are gathered, call on my name, and I will bring you back to reality. Remember, Alpha, only you can find her. Brid doesn't have much time before she is completely consumed.”

Closing my eyes for a few seconds, I tried to get the air back into my lungs. I can't let Brid down. I've already disappointed her once, and that's more than enough for a lifetime. Our lives are at risk, not just us, but thousands of humans.

Taking a deep breath, I relaxed my body. Then, I began to focus on me where to find her.

Images of her started to circulate around me endlessly. Unforgettable moments I will treasure forever in my heart. From the moment we met for the first time, until the moment Salima took her away. I remember her tenderness and her determination to return to me. I felt the love that she had for me, and I for her. As well, I was also able to taste the tears that she shed, both happiness and sadness. All the moments when her smile lit up my day. I let my tears fall without restrictions, while the images kept flying around me.

They suddenly stopped, motionless, suspended in the air.

From them, a small space began to open. I couldn't figure out what it was until I could clearly see a path highlighted by small twinkling lights. Without hesitation, I moved in that direction. Still suspended in the air, I managed to move my body to reach that path.

Already there, my body was suddenly released from that force that was holding me. I fell straight into the light path. But my body felt weak, and my muscles weren't responding as usual. I got up from the floor and tried to walk. The first few steps were hard, but as my legs got used to it, it got easier to pull them off. Brid was always in mind as I walked along the path. Never give up on thinking about her.

My emotions were one with the path, that's what I learned while I was there.

The road seemed endless, there were many twists and turns, but my heart filled with warmth while I walked it. My hopes of finding Brid increased because I knew I was close, and that at any moment I would be reunited with her. My body was starting to feel hot because my heart only beats for her.

The endless images I saw reminded me of what I should never have forgotten. She is my world. My eternal love. The reason I wake up every day. My mate, Brid.

My attention was focused on a transparent white sphere in front of me, while the path that brought me here disappeared in the same way as it appeared.

When I saw what was inside, my heart skipped a beat. Brid was on the floor with some ropes tied to her body. I was overcome with emotion the moment I saw her face because it was contorted in pain and despair. I could feel her suffering and it was terrible.
