I need more food

Brid

“This bread is excellent.” I thought out loud as I stuffed large pieces into my mouth. I was so hungry that nothing mattered right now. My stomach was demanding sustenance from me, and I had to do something. Fortunately, between the clothes I steal, the hunters had kept a treasure in their pockets. Meal. I was able to find chocolate bars, bread, and a few bags of peanuts and walnuts. This was my lucky day. I already had clothes, and now food. The next thing was to find the way out of this forest and get home.

That same day, I was exploring my surroundings, trying to find a hill or mountain that could give me clarity about where I was. I also took the opportunity to search for food. Without my wolf, I was useless, of course.

In the pockets of the hunters' clothing, I found a lighter and a pocket knife. It was tiny, but in some ways, this could help me. Of that, I was certain. I sat on the floor with all the objects I had, with the intention to find a way to use them to get food. But nothing came to my mind.

As much as I thought about everything, I couldn't see how this could help me right now. Unfortunately, I knew nothing about survival. Having my wolf with me was what counted to survive in the open field, always. However, now that I was alone, my life was in danger. And painfully, I realized that, despite being Luna of my pack. I was a completely useless human, with no special abilities.

After contemplating the blade for several minutes, my mind conjured a thought. “OH! NO, NO, NO! Not that. I am a werewolf, not a chicken. No, definitely not.”

Half an hour later, I was tearing with the blade the bark of a fallen tree, searching for larvae. It took me about half an hour to find one, and when I picked up a piece of wood that looked quite rotten, many fat, white larvae were huddled together. My stomach immediately protested just looking at them. I wanted to throw up.

“Look what you're making me do, Leaf. Because of you, I'm going to have to eat this. I hope that wherever you are, you see what I'm going to do, and feel sorry for me. A she-wolf eating worms, HA! Shame on you, Leaf.”

With the tip of the blade, I pick one up. I watched it closely and the thing began to contort. I swallowed hard and put it in front of my mouth. “I heard somewhere that they say they taste like chicken.”

Without thinking more, I put it inside my mouth and swallowed it without even tasting it. After remaining still for a few seconds, I felt my stomach growl. Then the offending worm returned without me being able to do anything, with my stomach hurting for hours. When I finally calmed down, my mouth tasted bad. The worst part is that I had no water with me. The only thing I could do was grab a handful of leaves from a tree and chew on them.

The unpleasant taste was gone, but now, my mouth tasted bitter. The leaves I bit off were just as nasty. I was beginning to believe that my bad luck wouldn't change. But my stomach roared again. In resignation, I turned to look at the tree. It still had more larvae. I wasn't sure what would happen next, but I had to try, that, or starve.

Again, I took one with the knife, and I did the same as last time. And without change, my stomach vomited it up with vengeance. After cleaning my mouth, I lay down on the leafy ground. The sky was open and without a cloud. I closed my eyes, and from so much fatigue, I fell asleep.

Something was tickling my arm. Very lazily, I opened my eyes. And at that moment I couldn't have opened them bigger. I froze in shock. Instinctively, I lowered the intensity of my breathing and waited. A succulent and cuddly rabbit was browsing around me. I felt it walk down my abdomen and then go to my legs. The rabbit was turning its back on me, and faster than an escaping gazelle, I grabbed it by the neck without giving it any chance. The unlucky animal did not see it coming. I was now a human, but my hunting instincts had not abandoned me.

“Yea! I have you, Haaaa! The rabbit in my hands was squirming, trying to escape. Yet, I pressed harder, for nothing in this world would I lose my grip. The rabbit, after a few seconds, froze. Subsequently, his head turned to the side, lifeless. I looked around for my instruments. Today I will eat rabbit.

The knife was next to the lighter, but I had to build a fire first. That would make me look for leaves and branches for the fire. And I would have to leave my prey unattended. No, some predator might sniff it out and steal it from me.

Observing a few steps, I found the solution. Plenty of rocks are stacked against each other. I had to hide the rabbit under them and cover it with more. And that's what I did. Once my rabbit was safe, I began to collect everything that could be used to start a fire. I looked at the sky, and it was still clear. Rain would not be a problem today.

The fire was easy to make. The lighter did all the work. I was very lucky, I have to admit. Had it not been for those two silly hunters, I don't know what condition I would be in now.

Finally, I went for my rabbit. I clean it and remove the skin. Then I put it on a stick to cook it slowly. After about two hours, finally, the rabbit was ready. My stomach was already impatience and angry. I didn't want to eat it raw, since I didn't know how my body would react without my wolf. Now, I was simply a human in the middle of an unfamiliar forest and completely lost.

“Kael, are you thinking of me now?” A single tear trickled down my cheek.
